Frequently Asked Questions:
If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to reach out to us. Or send us an email at amanda@partnersinpause.com. Thanks!
Where are you located?
Partners in Pause operates out of a farm in Rockville, VA about 30 minutes west of downtown Richmond. Once you have booked an experience with us, we will send you detailed information on directions and parking.
What should I know before I visit?
You are about to embark on an exciting farm adventure! You will likely encounter mud, poop, bugs, uneven ground, and varying weather from the pasture to the woods. Please bring a water bottle, wear closed toed shoes, wear or bring sunscreen and bug spray, and dress in layers. Out of concern for the privacy of those who live on the farm, restrooms are not available onsite. Please plan accordingly. There are several businesses with restrooms within 1-2 miles of the farm. Bring your smile and sense of adventure- the alpacas can’t wait to meet you!
But don't alpacas spit?
Alpacas are generally docile, gentle animals. But, just like llamas or camels, they can spit. Alpacas will usually only spit at each other, but it is possible to get caught in the middle- usually only if food is involved. If it does happen, you can consider yourself initiated. . . and we have plenty of paper towels.
What if it rains?
Most weather offers the opportunity to experience and learn from different aspects of nature. Our programming can happen rain or shine. In the event of dangerous driving conditions, pouring rain, or thunder/lightening we will reschedule.
How old does my child have to be to experience the alpacas?
An alpaca meet and greet is suitable for children of any age. Children younger than 5 can meet the alpacas across the fence. Children 7 years and older might have the opportunity to hand feed or walk an alpaca in the pasture. Children 12 years and older might have the opportunity to walk an alpaca on the trail. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a supervising adult present.
What if I want to come back again?
There is always something to do on the farm! Activities and programming vary with the seasons, the weather, the ages of your group, and the mood of our alpacas. We welcome repeat visitors and can work to create a unique experience each visit.
